The Top 3 Trouble Hands in Texas Hold’em

Texas Hold’em is the most popular poker variant available but also the one people find most challenging. A lot of post-flop errors could be eliminated if beginners knew the proper hands to play. In this article, we’re going to bring to your attention the top three hands that players have trouble with. By knowing them you can hopefully avoid the common errors.

1] Ace Rag

Without doubt, an ace and low card is the hand that costs players the most. They seem to think holding an ace will be the answer to all their problems and make them money. It doesn’t matter if you’re in a local cardroom or playing at a trusted online casino Malaysia, an ace with a low kicker is a dangerous hand to play. If you hit you could easily be beat by someone holding a better ace. Therefore, tread carefully and don’t invest lots of money into these hands.

2] Suited Hands

Suited hands are ones that contain two of the same suit. They can be appealing to play as they look pretty and you can hit a flush. But in reality, the chances of making a flush in poker are small. Secondly, unless you are holding a holding an ace or king with your other suited hand, it’s unlikely to be a nut flush hand. Therefore, there is always the chance that someone can make a higher flush which could cost you a lot of money. Depending on the combination of your suited hand it might be worth playing but in general, mucking hands that are disconnected but suited is likely to save you money in the long run.

3] Paint Cards

Paint cards like king jack or queen jack can be excellent hands in poker – under the right circumstances. However, the problem a lot of people have is that they tend to overplay them. For instance, you may choose to raise with these hands but calling an early position raise or calling a big re-raise before the flop is a losing strategy. Most hands that 3 bet before the flop are likely to dominate the paint card combinations and put you at a massive disadvantage. By all means, play these hands but be careful if there is lots of action pre-flop as you could be dead before even seeing the flop.
